In London—The cast of “Bridgerton,” a series replete with romance and heartbreak, has shared some dating and relationship advice for fans seeking love.
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, who play central roles in the third season’s storyline, are friends-turned-lovers on screen. At the London premiere of the second part, which airs on Thursday, the pair joked about how fans frequently suspect them of dating in real life due to their on-screen chemistry.
“We can’t do anything,” Coughlan said, laughing, after noting that it’s a “reflex” for her to be friendly with Newton since they’ve known each other for many years. Newton agreed, stating that such speculation reflects fans’ investment in their characters’ relationship.
“It’s really sweet, it’s so lovely that there’s that much thought into it and how much they ship Colin and Pen,” he said. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

With their characters involved in dreamy (and steamy) relationships, Coughlan offered some advice to viewers seeking their own fairytale romance.
“Don’t compromise yourself,” she said. “Wait for the right person because you’re worth it.”
Newton concurred, saying he “agreed with all of the above.” Here’s the advice the rest of the cast shared for the romantics watching “Bridgerton”:
Simone Ashley, part of the second season’s storyline, said the show makes viewers “want to fall in love.”
“It’s very hopeful, and it makes you believe. It really captures your imagination and your heart again,” Ashley said. “The same feeling that the show brings — pass that on to someone else. Make someone else feel as amazing as the show makes you feel.”
Golda Rosheuvel, who plays , emphasized that communication is “everything” in a relationship, adding that this season, it's key to keeping Colin and Penelope’s relationship intact. “Love wins every time,” she added.
The Shonda Rhimes advised fans to “raise (their) standards.” She observed that the men on “Bridgerton” are “supportive and loving and all know how to dress and dance,” saying she wants “to feel like those guys are out there.”
Ruth Gemmell dispensed some straightforward, motherly advice, much like her character, Lady Violet Bridgerton, would: “Be true to yourself.”
Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, offered a more pragmatic perspective, contrasting with the idealistic advice given by some of her co-stars. “Romanticism has probably messed us up a bit,” she said. “The majority of your life is going to be figuring out domestic things and that’s really not sexy and it’s boring, but it’s really a massive part of life. So romance, whilst it’s beautiful, don’t rely on it for the rest of your life.”
Hannah Dodd, new to the cast as Francesca Bridgerton this season, laughed when asked about dating advice.
“Don’t ask me that,” she said, seemingly implying that she could use some advice herself.
While his character Lord Marcus Anderson may appear to be a bit of a ladies' man, Daniel Francis provided some wise counsel on how to find a suitable partner.
“There’s three things: Know what you want, know why you want it … and this is a tricky one for a lot of people, but I truly believe in this — you got to make sure you’re fishing in the right pond,” he said.
